Last May I found a little piece about a highly confused family history situation that arose in Norfolk in 1811 (here).
Just as I thought the genteel and rather pleasant pastime of genealogy could not possibly get any more confusing I have today come across another mind-bending situation published in Leeds (Leeds Times – Saturday 21 June 1851).
Curious Genealogy. An aged and respected individual died in a neighbouring village a short time ago, whose genealogy is not a little remarkable. His natural father stood in the relation of grandfather to him; his brother was also his father; and he is own mother was likewise his sister! An explanation of this mystery will be found in the fact that he was an illegitimate child, and that his mother was subsequently married to the son of his reputed father; hence arose and strained relationships and singular genealogy.
And if you can possibly work that one out please do let me know.
