Love Tragedy at Winchmore Hill – 28 August 1909

Much like today, news media has always demonstrated its sensational side. The Illustrated Police News was a highly popular newspaper especially during the Victorian and Edwardian era, full horror and shock. Here is a classic case from 1909 reporting a murder in North London with sensational images on the front page with limited editorial buried deep in the body of the paper.

For historians (family or otherwise), names, locations and details add much to the research.

Identifying the articles and any detail of any event that could have been reported no matter how seemingly trivial is of great value. Frequently I have uncovered items, long forgotten, lost in memory in the news.

This free to use service (covering the period 1750 – 1950) aims to assist individuals interested in their UK family history or British history in general. If any information is unearthed from the archives, you will be promptly notified. Similarly, if no relevant findings are obtained, you will be informed accordingly.

If you suspect that your ancestor may have been involved in a court case, whether accused of a crime, deported, imprisoned, or acquitted, I can potentially unveil the news as it was reported at that time.
