Examination Results – Western Times – Tuesday 08 July 1913

I was looking for some news reports of my Grandfather and his family the other day. I knew he lived in Newton Abbot in Devon, South West England. He was born in the 1890’s, died in the the 1970’s and spent his life in South Devon. So he was educated in the home town. The news results have been quite revealing – school reports, war archive  (both world wars), news about his father as a gardener entering local competitions and so much more. Every snippet unfolding a life with names, places, events and dates.

In 1913 Grandpa. as a elder school boy, is reported in The Western Times following his examination results from the Newton Abbot Science, Arts and Technical School. Within a year he was to signup and volunteer with fellow school pupils to join the Devons and Dorsets in the army and eventually go to India during the First World War. Forty years later he’d tell his only grandson stories through those frightening years – I have never forgotten them.

This free to use service (covering the period 1750 – 1950) aims to assist individuals interested in their UK family history or British history in general. If any information is unearthed from the archives, you will be promptly notified. Similarly, if no relevant findings are obtained, you will be informed accordingly.

If you suspect that your ancestor may have been involved in a court case, whether accused of a crime, deported, imprisoned, or acquitted, I can potentially unveil the news as it was reported at that time.
