    The above is copied from an old Family Bible at Rodney Street & is now corroborated by the burials in Kirkby Lonsdale Register.<\/p>\n

    No mention is made of the marriage of Henry Bickersteth & Elizabeth Batty in 1777.
    Batty, on the other hand appears to have been a very old family in the neighbourhood of Kirkby Lonsdale.<\/p>\n

    According to Mrs Mayor, Mr Henry Bickersteth came from Burton in Kendal; it is probable that he only settled in K. Lonsdale shortly before his marriage, as Mr Newby the surgeon of Kirkby died in 1775, & that in this way he met Elizabeth Batty.<\/p>\n

    Batty family section<\/h1>\n

    Family of Batty appear to have come from Parish of Tunstall
    & settled at Biggins & Deansbiggin in Heaswick in the parish of Kirkby Lonsdale about the year 1700.
    There seem to have been at least four brothers in this family.<\/p>\n

    1. William Batty<\/h3>\n

    William Batty of Burrow was married to Agnes Glover of [Maun?]
    Apr. 27th 1706.<\/p>\n

    William Batty from Burrow in Tunstall Parish died & was buried Feby 3rd 1749.<\/p>\n

    Agnes Batty late of Burrow in Tunstall Parish widow died & was buried Sept. 17th 1756.<\/p>\n

    bapt. Aug 3rd 1726.<\/p>\n

    The following inscription also is found on a tombstone in Kirkby Churchyard:<\/p>\n

    Biggins, Gentleman, who died the first day of April 1790 aged 62 years,
